This book is an attempt to rediscover the meaning of the Fourth Gospel in the Indian context. When the Synoptic Gospels focus on the historical aspect of the miracle stories, the writer of the Fourth Gospel interprets them by relating them to the sacramental and sapiential contexts of the Gospel readers. The author uses a similar style of reasoning to interpret such sign narrative to promote the Christian faith using the traditional resources and contexts of the readers and thus sets a model for doing hermeneutics in new contexts. This book points out how the Gospel writer provides such a hermeneutic method by using the sign narrative of the Feeding of the Five Thousand in John 6. This book presents the case for using the Fourth Evangelist's hermeneutic methods in Indian contexts because the background and perspectives of the Fourth Gospel audience are similar to that of the audience in Indian contexts.
